The Alaska Law Review

March 21st, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in 123

The Alaska Law Review is a scholarly publication that examines legal issues affecting the state of Alaska.
It is composed of second and third year law students from Duke University School of Law, and governed by a faculty advisor committee. The Alaska Law Review publishes in June and December. In publishing these issues, the Alaska Law Review seeks to provide articles related to current legal trends and issues of practical importance to the Alaska Bar. The Alaska Law Review also publishes an annual Year-in-Review consisting of short summaries of significant court decisions from Alaska District Courts, the Alaska Court of Appeals, the Alaska Supreme Court, and the Ninth Circuit.

The Alaska Bar Association recognizes a need for a scholarly publication devoted specifically to issues affecting Alaska. Alaska does not, however, have a state law school so the Alaska Bar selected Duke University School of Law to publish the Alaska Law Review.

Disability Law Center

March 20th, 2009 | Comments Off | Posted in 123

Disability Law Center is an independent non-profit law firm providing legal advocacy services for people with disabilities anywhere in Alaska. In response to the public outcry about the abuse and neglect of individuals with disabilities in institutional care, in 1975 the U.S. Congress mandated the creation of Protection and Advocacy (P&A) agencies in every state and territory. The purpose of this nationwide system is to provide for the protection of and advocacy for the legal, civil, and human rights of persons with disabilities.

DLC is designated under federal law as the State of Alaskas P&A agency. Their mission is to promote and protect the legal and human rights of Alaskans with disabilities. Protection and Advocacy programs, including the Disability Center of Alaska, accept cases based on priorities established each year with public input. This process ensures that scarce resources are directed at needs identified by the community as most pressing.
